Tasks
Main tasks:
At the beginning of 1992, the Teaching and Research Institute for Animal Breeding and Husbandry was newly founded and has been run since then in the legal form of a registered association (e.V.). In contrast to other teaching and experimental stations, the LVAT e.V. is not a state institution. It is financed mainly from the special-purpose agricultural enterprise.
The following activities are carried out as sovereign tasks or as a service for the state of Brandenburg in close cooperation with the State Office for Consumer Protection, Agriculture and Land Consolidation (LELF):
- Practical performance testing in station as progeny, origin or feed value performance testing for the animal species pig, cattle and sheep.
- Carrying out practical trials as the most important research basis in the animal sector for the LELF
- Investigation of agricultural production methods, demonstration of practically applicable results of animal husbandry and biogas utilization as well as further education of farmers and agricultural advisors
- Demonstration of agricultural processes in the context of public relations and appropriate consumer education.
The financial means necessary for this are borne by the state of Brandenburg. These public funds contribute 20% to the total turnover of LVAT.
Since 2008, an ICAR measuring laboratory for the recognition of milk quantity measuring instruments has been operated at the LVAT site by the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy.
